Difference Makers Kokua Foods, a food distribution program that serves those in need in the DC Metro area was started in May 2017. Thanks to the help of our partners at Wegmans Germantown and Wegmans Woodmore who donate bread, dairy and produce to us and donations of canned goods and other nonperishable items from our community we are able to help 100 families and several DC area shelters each weekend.
Distribution sites and dates:
Takoma Park Middle School (1st Sunday of the month)
New Hampshire Estates Elementary School (2nd Sunday of the month)
Rolling Terrace Elementary School (4th Sunday of the month)
Kokua is a Hawaiian word that means “extending loving, sacrificial help to others for their benefit, not for personal gain.” That is exactly what Kokua Foods is about: helping others selflessly. Difference Makers has also established a Kokua Foods Pantry that will be housed at Takoma Park Middle School and will serve the families at TPMS as well as serve as an emergency resource for our community. Donations of nonperishable items can be made at Takoma Park Middle School and monetary donations via our website are also welcome. Together we can all make a difference.
